sweet dreams

back to music page

there's a field in the mountains near to where i live in rathfarnham. in it there is a rock that overlooks the city lights... i often drive or cycle up there to put my life in perspective. i like to find the lights that light up the moments in my life and try to imagine what the other lights witness.
this one evening, i was cycling home after a night out. when i arrived home, it was such a lovely evening, that i kept cycling. i got to the field, took out my guitar and began playing these chords. the song just fell around them.

----
from here the city seems so peaceful
it probably does from where you are too
and this is my dream, i've offered her so many lines
or am i hers for the words that she provides?

the sea off to the east is like a tongue of fire
caressing the yellow citys side
and it's keeping you warm in there where you lie
as your eyes accept the night

sweet dreams my love
i hope these words find your ears
for i couldn't find you this evening
though as i searched i swore you were there

the stars grace the night
one for every dreamer below
and i see yours peek through a hole in the clouds
and wish a dream into your night

and i hope it's one you'll love til morning
when it flutters down and becomes a drop of dew
come find me that's where i'll be waiting
with dawn i'll be waiting there for you

sweet dreams my love
i hope these words find your ears
for i couldn't find you this evening
though as i searched i swore you were there

sweet dreams my love
i whisper on the wind
and though i may not be sleeping
i'm still dreaming of you
