Vanessa Monaghan reviews aidan's new ep for ISH Magazine.

'introducing...' follows his 2002 debut 'Walking Into Walls', in this EP Dublin based singer-songwriter aidan shows a maturity beyond his 25 years.

The European flavoured 'Nunca Màis' opens events, an environmental tale of an oil soaked beach. Aidan manages to convey the immense impact of this in his lyrics, the volunteers' toil and the sheer volume of work taken to clean up this tragedy.

'Believe' follows the bare vain of the opening track with minimal instruments but nothing is missing. Clever arrangements give a full sound. 'Back to the Bar' the third track on this EP is a definite winner. Radio friendly with catchy melody and lyrics, this track has a different vibe with drum loops added.

OK, this guy can rock. Track 4 'The Only One', shows a different dimension and I like it. Recorded live with The Students in Belgium, aidan has opened a very big door for himself. Electric guitars, keys, harmonica and his vocals cut it live. More of this please.

The piano led, 'With love from America' is a haunting reminder of 9/11. The EP closes with the upbeat 'Staring Down On Me'. The track builds, added to by djembe and an acappella break. A good ending.

aidan's ability as a songwriter and musician is not in doubt. Good production and clever arrangements but aidan's knack for multi layering his own voice is staggering. Is aidan folk/rock or rock/folk? He's definitely worldly conscious and not afraid to rock a bit. Get yourself a band, the results should be fantastic.
